Space Dandy- That Dandiest of Them All

Saturdays won’t be quite the same without Viva Namida or X-Dimension.

When I heard that Shinichiro Watanabe was going to directing yet another series, I was surprised that it involve the space setting once again. I was expecting something around the lines of his usual works that combined a setting and a musical theme to provide a contrasting world but either way, I was happy he was back into the industry.

I was puzzled though. Space Dandy’s premise seemed like nothing to brag about. It just simply read “A Dandy in space”. With this in mind, I had no idea what to expect. Thankfully enough, I got more than I expected.

Space Dandy 2 Episode 12- No Ace Attorney jokes here

A set up episode to transition to the final episode.

I’m honestly not surprised that they did this, something like Dandy to end probably needs a bit of set up like how Bebop and Champloo needed 2 episodes for its finale. Of course, Dandy is nowhere near as “story based” as the two (while all three are episodic anyway) but let’s just say I saw it coming.

That being said, it isn’t the regular two parter either, this episode solely gives more insight on why Dandy is so pursued after and things pick up at the final moments of the episode.

So for the final episode, let’s get through with this.

Space Dandy 2 Episode 11- Dimension Invaders

These episodes are just getting better and better.

I honestly didn’t expect things to turn out like this, and that’s pretty good. Dandy however seems to be getting a bit more “serious” like they promised back when the 1st season was airing. If you thought the first episode of the second season was the only mention of different dimensions, well, this episode’s got all the numerical interpretations of that concept.

Man, everybody is making Galaga references these days

Space Dandy 2 Episode 10- Love Burns Scarlet

Dandy increases the significant female count and gives Scarlet her very episode.

All those times I wondered why exactly Scarlet and Honey showed up in the opening alongside the main crew in the montages. I mean yes, they are the most frequently reoccurring members of the cast but they never really got the spotlight other than to be at a certain location to bring in the certain kind of humor. In both of their cases, they got slight development in the Cloudian episode but Scarlet gets her time here.

So let’s get funky with it.

Space Dandy 2 Episode 9- Time for Heaven, Baby

The soundtrack continues to impress while the episode pulls another fast one on us.

I always end up “reviewing” the episode in the beginning instead of the end but I will just say the dancing wasn’t all that amazing other than when Dandy was on screen. The entire event needed to be like a party. I forgive this episode thanks to its insane ending and the new addition to the soundtrack.

So far we had 2 fish episodes and at least 3-4 singing/dancing episode.

Space Dandy 2 Episode 8- Dandy/Extra CCC

You can already tell classes are taking their toll on me. Since I commute now, delays will be a bit more noticeable. Either way, this week will be easy on me since it’s the beginning weeks and everything is falling into place.

This week’s episode was weird as all hell and the music was unexpectedly glorious for the setting we were in. I was partly confused while writing this but I still found it a very enjoyable and exotic episode.

Space Dandy 2 Episode 7- Clash at Dandy

Now that was a pretty dandy episode.

It’s always nice to see some friendship going on and we also finally get to see the other side of the galactic war with the Jaicro Empire going against our good ol’ Admiral Dormammu/Inferno Cop. I actually liked the song compared to the musical they attempted in the highschool musical one.

I wish Johnny was a mainstay or was at least hinted in the opening since he’s a good companion with the Dandy crew. I hope we get to see more of him.

But for now, let’s get into this so I can actually be up to schedule.
