Delayed Ramblings about Devil May Cry V Part 1: The Technical Stuff

So it turned out Jojo’s hour long episode is NEXT week so I am now compelled to post DMC5 exactly in the middle of these seasonal anime posts because I got nothing else at the moment. The following intro blurb, as reiterated by the last sentence, was written way back.

Perhaps it’s my judgmental bias really kicking in but from the looks of it, many people that I’m seeing talking about DMC5 don’t seem to have kept up with the series, be it gameplay or storywise, for the longest time. Granted, DMC4 was literally 11 years ago and DMC4:SE was just 4 years ago but in the age of streaming reactions and bandwagoning, it’s tough to believe some of these people actually know what they’re talking about. This translates to, people who only follow hypetrains are annoying and I’m particular about showing genuine excitement.

Speaking as a guy who’s played everything in the series minus fully playing DMC2 and DmC out of morbid curiosities, I have a couple of things to say about Capcom’s recent redemption arc with the 11-year awaited DMC5 being its latest entry into the return of Capcom.

And lord jesus, I wrote that intro around April and here we are.

Fate Extra Last Encore- Episode 9: So much for that

A slightly less interesting episode where it mostly focused on something that I was already very familiar with. While not as satisfactory as a concluding episode compared to Alice’s episodes, it did leave a lot of interesting questions to be asked moving forward. According to the news, Last Encore is going on hiatus after Episode 10 airs and will resume its presumed finale after a couple weeks. I have no idea why this is but I’m not going to bother questioning it.

So let’s get a move on.

Fate Extra Last Encore- Episode 8: Finally some answers

Things finally start to get interesting, despite some disappointing revelations about the fourth stratum (Hint: they basically skip it) and on right to some admittedly more interesting things in the fifth stratum. Concepts are finally explained and things start really feeling like a sequel where Julius and Twice finally put some puzzle pieces where they belong to paint a clearer picture, let’s get to it.

Fate Extra Last Encore- Episode 7: Confusing and Tragic

For once, I actually felt that Last Encore delivered a better version of Week 3 than the game did. I expected a cavalcade of weird shit and I definitely experienced that weird shit these past two weeks, moreso than the game could really provide. Let’s not waste any time since I slacked off on this one because the subs took so long, I don’t even know if the latest episode is already done with that or not.

Fate Extra Last Encore- Episode 5: Called It

A couple steps forward?

A strange episode that makes me question what exactly Last Encore is trying to accomplish. This was yet another confrontational episode that pitted the main duo against the enemy master and servant but once again, I find myself wanting. The series is clearly another take, another rendition of the game’s original plot but title and events of the episode pretty much confirmed where and when I think the events of the series is taking place.

The only question is, why?

Fate Extra Last Encore- Episode 4: Can we even call these time-skips?

It’s about time I purge the thought of this adaptation retaining too many of my expectations of related to Extra’s events and themes. I guess that goes to show how much I actually enjoyed Extra despite a good majority of fans calling it a rather poor game. The second round of the Mooncell War is one of my favorites in the game with Dan and Archer being a conflicting duo, perhaps the most incompatible of the 7 masters the player faces but we’ll see how that turns out.
