Space Dandy- That Dandiest of Them All

Saturdays won’t be quite the same without Viva Namida or X-Dimension.

When I heard that Shinichiro Watanabe was going to directing yet another series, I was surprised that it involve the space setting once again. I was expecting something around the lines of his usual works that combined a setting and a musical theme to provide a contrasting world but either way, I was happy he was back into the industry.

I was puzzled though. Space Dandy’s premise seemed like nothing to brag about. It just simply read “A Dandy in space”. With this in mind, I had no idea what to expect. Thankfully enough, I got more than I expected.

Space Dandy 2 Episode 11- Dimension Invaders

These episodes are just getting better and better.

I honestly didn’t expect things to turn out like this, and that’s pretty good. Dandy however seems to be getting a bit more “serious” like they promised back when the 1st season was airing. If you thought the first episode of the second season was the only mention of different dimensions, well, this episode’s got all the numerical interpretations of that concept.

Man, everybody is making Galaga references these days

Space Dandy 2 Episode 6- Cloudy with a chance of development

Character development and some amounts of foreshadowing?

In MY Space Dandy?

Surprising enough right? While it is the usual episode of Dandy we got some character we’ve never seen before while getting some other connections that are new to the series. Corresponding with the Opening of the series that featured Honey and Scarlet, we finally see them be a bit more significant than before.

Let’s down to it

Space Dandy 2 Episode 2&3- Grim Fandango and So long and thanks for the fish

Well my fears come alive as the following 2 episodes of Space Dandy are very hit or miss types of episodes. I guess parts of it were good but they just happen to end us as regular episodes. Regular has its own definition when it comes to describing Dandy but episodes without too many kinds of emotional moments or amazing scenes don’t really tend to get me. I realize that it’s part of its charm but once again, it’s hit or miss for a lot of people.

Either way, this is a two-parter recap so let’s not waste anytime. I will say these will be rather short.

Space Dandy 2 Episode 1- Dandy Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Now that’s how you start a season off.

Well it’s back folks, everybody’s local, galactic screw-up and co. in another adventure through the stars. Season 2 starts off with an immediate bang instead of S1’s rather weak start. I sort of fear that this is the best of what we’ll get but I hope I am wrong. I’m essentially a week behind so let’s not waste anytime, this episode was just way too good to bundle with Episode 2.

Also, the ending should make a lot of sense for those who haven’t picked up on the message of multiple dimensions.

Space Dandy Episode 10-12: In an Alternate Dimension, I would be ahead of Schedule

I decided to tackle Space Dandy before Nisekoi because I’d rather chronicle the adventures of an obsolete robot, a lazy cat, and Josuke in space compared to 2 (later, 3) childhood friends and one reverse trap. Not saying Nisekoi is bad, but it has its manga which I read ahead in while I can never expect what Dandy does next.

Since there’s a lot of ground to cover, I’ll be doing more simplistic (moreso than I usually do) summaries and then straight to my reactions.

I lament the fact that I can’t pull off any creative titles but oh well, I’m going to say them later anyway

Space Dandy Episode 8: Dandy and Me

Another “decent” episode this week.

But first, props to [adultswim] for airing Viva Namida. Now I wish for the ending to show up.

While a dog being hinted at the title of the episode gives away that the episode will contain of a lot of potential sentimentality, it really depends who you’re asking. Don’t get me wrong here, the “feels” were felt right here in my chest but in all honesty, it could have been delivered a lot better. Then there’s the second half of the episode…

Allow me to explain myself.
