You know, I almost forgot that Leonidas is voiced by Shinichiro Miki.
A bit interesting seeing how both Azur Lane and FGO started off in the same way with some action to get us settled and then calm things over, but I guess it’s a basic enough formula to follow through with how to open up shows. Definitely a lot less fanservice shots, which is a good thing because I didn’t want to spend combing through frames.
One of the quaint things of the Babylon singularity was the fact that the first quarter of it involved hanging around Uruk and just living out some comfortable slice of life stuff doing jobs around the city and dealing with the perennial monster problem. The anime delivers on that and we’ll most definitely see more of it given that the series is scheduled for 21 episodes. Given my preference towards what happens at the latter half of the series however, I can only hope that the gacha bucks can keep the action consistent. If nothing else, at least the food looks fantastic.
Aside from that opening fight with Gilgamesh and then another short sequence with Ishtar, most of the episode has to do with going around town and doing the menial labor that Gilgamesh expects everyone to do. Gilgamesh still shows that he can be every bit of an asshole we’ve come to know from him over the years but he’s got the proper kingly attitude that will warm up to the crew in due time. Siduri is one of the few characters in this story that’s an actual human being compared to the others and her role in the story isn’t that big but she is one of the few people who Gilgamesh actually responds positively to.
Ushiwakamaru, Benkei, and Leonidas get to be our regular servant crew which is as budget of a team you can get this far into singularities but hey, Merlin can make anyone work. Ibaraki and Tomoe were summoned too and I fully expect them to get cameos before they bite the dust/fuck off to a mountain. Despite Ushi being arguably the most noticeable of the three, given that absolutely ridiculous outfit, I was surprised at how likeable everyone become and it’s definitely all thanks to the upcoming slice of life stuff that will make these three just more than just fodder.
