Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko Review

Lolis, lolis, LOLIS

I first recognized this series first for its art. Kantoku is a pretty famous artist and specializes in loli’s so with all things considered: I didn’t really find any reason to watch this. Light’s insistance on the series made me start it and while I wasn’t too impressed with the first episode, the supernatural element left me with a curious impression.

So this time around, before I tackle on Shingeki no Kyojin and Oregairu, we’ll take it easy with this one

I tried not to flood the post with pictures. There was just so many to use too D:

The series’ protagonist is Yokodera Youto (voiced by Yuki Kaiji, he seems to land these kinds of roles a lot these days), the resident pervert of his highschool. He hears from his equally perverted friend that he lost his perverse thoughts when he asked the stone cat ontop of a nearby hill. While Yokodera is a true pervert, he’s uneasy with conveying his honesty and decides to try the stone cat’s powers. He meets a girl named Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko on the hill who was about to wish to the stone cat on making her emotions harder to show. The two “somewhat” befriend eachother and make their wish. The next day, Yokodera finds himself unable to lie and Tsukiko is unable to show any emotions. The stone cat’s powers apparently takes the wished away trait and gives it to someone else. The two eventually find Yokodera’s trait imprinted on the new transfer student Azuki Azusa.

Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko

For me, this series did well because of all the generalizations I had made prior to watching this. This applies to both its characters and its PLOT. That’s right PLOT.

  • Yokodera is the hapless pervert who really has no shame in admitting it that he is. He was admittly attracted to one girl only in the whole “harem”, but remained extremely clueless. For a pervert, he doesn’t seem lust over other girls too much, it’s mostly his fantasies. I don’t have too much thoughts on him as he’s pretty dense. Ironic because cute girls show obvious sign of liking him but he has no big intentions. But by the series’s end, it turns out he did something pretty big so he isn’t the worst guy in a harem…of around 3 girls.
  • Tsukiko is the loli who somehow is attracted to Yokodera much for the same reason as “because he was nice to me”. Like I said for Yokodera, there’s a very valid reason why she does fall for him. Family problems is the driving point of Tsukiko’s plot, but it comes to play at the end and until that happens, shes there to be cute and constany be in Yokodera’s way to be harassed. Tsukiko has the character trait of making noises whenever she does something in place of her emotions, which make her cuter even if she did have them. I liked Tsukiko for her cuteness and for plot’s sake, I can let Yokodera go for that.
  • Azuki Azusa is the newly transferred in girl who has shut down other boys from their hopes and dreams but experiences a charisma break when Yokodera befriends her. While she is the second most prominent girl and gets a fair share of the fanservice amount as Tsukiko, she’s mainly put to the sidelines as Yokodera’s density repels her attempts. I’ll say that I like Azusa a bit more than Tsukiko, mostly because I feel like she tries a bit harder and of course, has some vibrant emotions. She also loves to speak in similes which I find a bit nonsensical but adorable.
  • Tsukushi is the track team’s captain and plays the role of the brainless one. She’s fixated solely on the sport and even commends Yokodera for showing up to practice everyday (he’s just there to peep at girls while doing squats). She’s dangerously in love with Tsukiko but eventually falls for Yokodera too. Yokodera was getting pretty close to Tsukiko so in order to save his hide, he made up a story of his younger twin brother. Tsukushi falls for the false version of Yokodera and becomes pretty easy to manipulate as Yokodera can just say that he’s not who she thinks. Tsukushi is cute too, but I just didn’t find her as awesome as Tsukiko and Azusa.

Hentai Ouji Taste

There’s definitely more characters but its those four who matter. There’s another loli in the mix and the pretty vice-captain who speaks in dirtier languages than Yokodera does (not that he does so in the first place).

I mentioned that this series did well because of its characters and plot. The female characters aren’t really a harem since they’re only two legitimate candidates while the third one is just being stupid. I keep referring to “the end” that justifies the series and in my opinion, Yokodera does come out to be a nice guy. What basically makes up the final “arc” relates to the Tsutsukakushi sisters’ mother and their memories of her. With the aid of the stone cat (there’s two of them by the way), Yokodera and Tsukiko go off to see why. I could compare the last arc to something around the likes of Chunnibyou because the entire series is just comedy and they pull offf somethinge emotional at the end. However, Chunnibyou had more development time while our crew in Hentai Ouji had to deal with wish-fixing and the likes.

Hentai Ouji Tsukiko

In the end, it was a suprisingly light-hearted show and it wasn’t as perverted or fanservice filled as I thought it would be. The girls are just heart-wrenchingly cute and the while the series dart around with wishes flying everywhere, the end was satisfying. I can barely call it a harem since it’s 2-3 girls and I definitely reccommend it as a “stress reliever” type of watch. Like me, don’t expect anything but pure, sweet heart attacks induced by cute girls. In a realistic score, it gets around an 8 for some shortlived enjoyment

And by god that opening/ending……it’s so damn cute

  1. Sounds like something I may check out. I don’t watch these type of anime normally. A lighthearted ramp that is spare on fanservice sounds like a good change of pace. Although Yokodera may strike me as a little annoying. The dense males are a little tired.
